A very fast-growing species, but requires softer water and sufficient fertilizer addition; CO2 addition and soil fertilizer tablets are highly recommended. Fluctuating water values should be avoided, otherwise the sensitive leaves will quickly suffer.

It occurs between Africa and Australia and, as a great solitary plant, requires a suitable location in a larger aquarium. The frogspoon-like Ottelia is a strong species with frogspoon-like leaves.

In the aquarium tank they can be kept up to a size of around 25cm and bushy growth with strong lighting and a good supply of fertilizer (especially via the heavily consuming roots).
