Salvinia cucullata is a rare species of floating fern from tropical Asia. The floating plant is also known as the hooded floating fern, but is rarely found commercially.
This variant is therefore significantly less common in the aquarium hobby than the species from the Salvinia auriculata group (of which S. molesta and S. minima are primarily offered).
The striking leaf shape is a great eye-catcher, especially in open aquariums - the densely arranged, velvety-looking and beautiful light green floating leaves are rolled up like a bag or hood. This is how the species got its name (cucullata = hood-like).
