Elatine hydropiper has tiny leaves and is therefore one of the smallest aquatic plants in the world. It is an ideal foreground plant and grows creeping over the ground. It is best to plant Elatine in small clumps a few centimeters apart, so that it spreads out well and forms a continuous "carpet".
Growth is rather slow and so the plant is also very suitable for small aquariums. After an acclimatization phase, Elatine hydropiper sprouts new shoots via creeping side shoots and then grows very steadily. CO2 fertilization, strong lighting and a pH value of around 6-7 are highly recommended.
