This Hygrophila is new to aquariums and still a great rarity in Europe. It comes from the Goa/Maharashtra region in western India. In nature it occurs in swampy, partly shady / semi-shady meadows. Therefore it is also very suitable for paludariums, where it will show delicate blue flowers, but of course you can also keep it in the aquarium permanently as a good 'water friend'.

In its terrestrial form this Hygrophila has fairly broad elliptical leaves, the underwater leaves are a little narrower. In good light the buds turn brown-red to dark olive green with clearly visible, differently colored veins.
Timely pruning promotes branching, the cut shoots can be used as head cuttings as with all stem plants.
