This grass-like plant from the grass family is a very rare and completely new variant. It is also sometimes known as Arthraxon sp. Malaysia, but has been clearly identified as Sphaerocaryum malaccense. It comes from the region between Pakistan, India and Indonesia and occasionally Papua New Guinea.
Under water, the leaves sometimes shimmer silvery because they are surrounded by a layer of air. An air bubble often forms on the very tips of the newly formed leaves, which often turn a light pink to violet after a few days.
