This Ludwigia, which comes from Africa, was already known in the aquarium hobby around the year 2000 as Ludwigia sp. "Guinea" because it was probably collected in Guinea, but otherwise no further information was known about it. The plant was later identified as Ludwigia senegalensis, which surprisingly had been known for more than 100 years.
Ludwigia senegalensis is characterized underwater by an interesting leaf pattern and intense brick-red coloring, and the leaves are also streaked with green leaf veins.
Its appearance in the aquarium is breathtaking, but certain things must be observed for optimal growth. It needs a lot of light and should therefore not be planted in shady areas of the aquarium. A good supply of micronutrients should also be ensured, and we recommend dosing about twice the amount of micronutrients specified by the manufacturer.
Macronutrients should also be added generously, as Ludwigia senegalensis "Guinea" only shows good growth and develops its full color potential at nitrate levels of around 20 mg/l and phosphate levels of around 2-3 mg/l.
