This red water lily is a tropical water lily species from India and is also widespread in the rest of tropical Asia as far as Madagascar. It is also known under the name Nymphaea rubra and is sometimes also counted as Nymphaea pubescens, although this is probably not correct.
This bulbous plant does not place high demands on the conditions in the aquarium, but should be given a free, bright spot and can therefore grow into a solitary plant, even for large aquariums.
Arrow-shaped, later broadly heart-shaped underwater leaves emerge from the tuber on one or more short shoots. Nutrient-rich soil such as Ebi Gold Waterplant Soil is very beneficial, as is constant fertilization. However, the tuber should not be completely buried in the ground; the fine roots find their way there themselves and draw a lot of nutrients from it.
We deliver Nymphaea stellata to you as a well-produced tuber. A short shoot grows from the tuber, on which a rosette of leaves and roots appear on the underside. This young plant sometimes breaks off from the tuber, even despite very careful packaging and transport. This young Nymphaea plant continues to grow independently if you place it lightly in the ground. As a fully grown plant it then develops a tuber. The remaining tuber can also be used in the aquarium and will quickly sprout a young plant.
