The popular mangrove roots are suitable for creating natural habitats as well as aquarium and terrarium landscapes and are also valued as a nutritional supplement by many catfish and shrimp.
They grate the roots because they need the plant fibers and roughage for healthy digestion and find many microorganisms and algae growth on the wood.
Mangrove wood gives off humic acid, which is certainly desirable and appreciated. Humic acids in the water contribute to the well-being of Amazon inhabitants such as discus, angelfish, etc.
The roots are of course suitable for wonderful decoration in the aquarium, which also creates caves and hiding places for the animals.
Impressive and natural aquascapes can also be achieved with them; the mangrove wood can also be planted with epiphytes such as Bucephalandra, Anubias and Java fern, and many aquarium mosses grow directly on it.
The roots are not pre-soaked, they should be washed with hot water before use in the aquarium or terrarium, but do not boil them as this will destroy the wood structure.
It can take a few days for the pieces to sink in the aquarium, in the meantime you can weigh them down with a stone, for example, or you can water them outside the aquarium until they are saturated with water.
