Monosolenium tenerum is a ground-growing liverwort. It doesn't float and after a few days of getting used to it, it grows very quickly into flat mats up to around 5cm high, but can also grow round and spherical. As a larger liverwort, it forms 6-12mm wide, rounded shoots. It can form fine adhesive roots and thus grow on lava stone and wood.
Monosolenium tenerum is often confused with the 'Pellia endivifolia', which has already been known in the aquarium hobby in recent decades (but is not related to it).
This liverwort is similar to the 'freshwater tang', which is not a moss but a fern prothallium and can be identified by the missing midrib and the transparent light green color.
The moss can be easily picked off and retied at any time. It is ideal as a grazing place for shrimps and as a hiding place for small fish. Monosolenium tenerum is also suitable in darker, quiet corners of the aquarium and can easily be attached to the substrate.
The moss has little demands on the water parameters; clean water (weekly water changes) and CO2 accelerate growth greatly. We recommend “FERKA Aquashade” or VIMI Micro as fertilizer, which contain special trace elements for the mosses.
Please note that the illustration shows the emersed growth of aquarium moss (growth above water). In the aquarium (submerged growth) the moss changes its appearance significantly and it then continues to grow with the well-known, described growth habit.
